How to send it
A photograph
Email the original file with where it was taken, the name to credit, and this sentence:
I took the attached photograph and own the copyright. From the Airport may publish it on fromtheairport.xyz with the credit "© [your name], used with permission, not for re-use". It is not open-licensed and may not be re-used or passed on; I can withdraw it by email at any time. If a person is the subject of the photograph, they agreed to its publication.
More: open licences, coordinates, your link
That sentence lets this site show the picture and nobody else; you can take it back any time.
Would rather open-licence it? Upload to Wikimedia Commons under CC BY 4.0 or CC BY-SA 4.0 and send the link. Know that an open licence cannot be taken back for copies already made: anyone may re-use the picture with credit, here and elsewhere, for good.
A verbal "sure, use it" is not a permission we can show anyone, which is why the sentence.
The original file usually carries its own location, which earns the strongest "verified" label here. Or paste the two numbers from a long-press in any maps app.
Tell us where your name should link (your site, your prints) and it links there on every page; change it any time with one email.

More: what we check and what we publish
We check the file's own physics: a timestamp on every point, plausible speeds, real GPS wobble, and that it covers a line we have measured. Nothing about you.
We publish which line, the date and your credit, on the boards. Never the file, and never a speed: a ranked time would be a leaderboard for speeding on moose roads.
A correction, or a place
A correction is worth more to us than any photograph: you can check what we can't. A place needs its name, a paragraph on why a traveller would drive there, and any stops you know. We measure it ourselves and say yes or no by the published criteria.
Send a correctionPropose a place
Not accepted: self-promotion (that's the partners page), claims nobody can check, or places the map doesn't know yet.
We never use anything without its credit, pass it on or sell it, trade a listing for it, or ask for a password. You keep the copyright. Want something of yours taken down or re-credited? One email and it's done.
If you ride, sail, fly or paddle
Quads and side-by-sides: the mountain riding no map has
Jackson's Arm, Blow Me Down, the Lewis Hills: a ridden track is the only way they get mapped, and the loop you already ride counts. Towns: mapping access points and staging areas in OpenStreetMap makes your trails citable everywhere. Rules on helmets, ages and where machines may run are the Off-Road Vehicles Act's, not ours. Export from Ride Command, onX, Tread →
Bikes: the island's cycling map is one rail trail
The whole open map holds 18 segments about mountain biking (5 named trails). A recorded ride works like a walk: on our trails it confirms the map; on singletrack it starts the mapping. Export from Edge, Wahoo, Trailforks →
Boats: two named wharves and a day
A boat track is checked by its two ends: within 500 m of a place boats tie up, at least 2 km, clean physics. We publish two places and a day, never a passage or a time.892 of the island's 978 wharves have no name on the map; if yours are nameless, we send back the ids and naming one makes it count. Any plotter format is fine. Export from Garmin, Raymarine, Lowrance →
Pilots: strip details and a flown leg
The flying guide lacks what you know on the ground: surface, length, lighting, fuel, and photos of any strip. A flown track counts when both ends are within 3 km of a strip; we publish the two strips and the day, never a time. We won't print fog, turbulence or "easy strip": NAV CANADA and the Supplement are the authorities. Run a Meshtastic node at your strip, or would host one? Say so (beside VHF and the ELT, never instead).
Surfers, paddlers, sailors, divers: places, not conditions
No dataset knows where a break works or how deep a wreck sits, so we ask. We publish the place, how to reach it and your credit; never a condition or a difficulty. The asks are tagged knowledge in the list below.
Icebergs: a photo with something for scale
Of 122 iceberg photos from this coast on Wikimedia Commons, we found none with a boat, house or person for scale. A berg beside a boat or past a headland with houses, taken from a tour boat, fills it. None exists at all off Change Islands or La Scie.
Three beaches: can you drive to them?
Back Harbour Beach and Great French Beach near Twillingate, Sandy Beach near La Scie. Been? Can you drive to it, is there parking, and how far is the walk? Three sentences publishes it.
The wanted list
Every specific gap, most useful first; your credit goes on the page it fills. Updated 2026-10-26.
- Watched Below? The real towns it names →knowledge
The show names places in the story as well as filming in them. Tell us which real towns or places it names and roughly which episode, and each one gets the drive from every airport and ferry, credited to you.
Send it (email ready) - Where the surf actually breaks, on this coast →knowledge
Nothing we can measure says where a break works. Send the place and how you reach it, credited to you; we never print conditions, ratings or anything that reads as a safety call.
Send it (email ready) - Where people windsurf, kitesurf or sail the wind →knowledge
The wind isn't on the open map. Send the launches, the road to them and which wind they need, credited as local knowledge and never as a forecast.
Send it (email ready) - River runs — kayak, canoe, anything paddled →knowledge
The open map holds no paddling on this island at all. Send the put-in and take-out as places, the road to each and who to ask about the water; we never print grades, flows or anything that reads as clearance to paddle.
Send it (email ready) - Dive and snorkel sites, from certified divers only →knowledge
Depth is safety-critical, so it comes from certified divers and operators or not at all. Send the site, the depth you logged, the entry and who to dive it with; snorkel spots are welcome and kept separate.
Send it (email ready) - Jackson's Arm — a recorded mountain snowmobile ride →track
Prized mountain riding at the end of Route 420, and none of it is on the open map. One original GPX of a ridden loop makes a page; this is avalanche terrain, and the page would point to Avalanche Canada and make no call of its own.
Send it (email ready) - Blow Me Down — a recorded mountain snowmobile ride →track
Prized mountain riding on the Bay of Islands, and none of it is on the open map. One original GPX of a ridden loop makes a page; this is avalanche terrain, and the page would point to Avalanche Canada and make no call of its own.
Send it (email ready) - The Lewis Hills — a recorded mountain snowmobile ride →track
The highest ground on the island, and none of the riding is on the open map. One original GPX of a ridden loop makes a page; this is avalanche terrain, and the page would point to Avalanche Canada and make no call of its own.
Send it (email ready)
All 61 gaps
- Lewisporte to Glenwood on the rail bed — one recorded ride →track
The rail bed is on the open map in pieces that no router can use. One recorded ride lets the gaps be tagged and the whole leg measured.
Send it (email ready) - The Exploits Islands lighthouse, on the map →mapping
OpenStreetMap has no lighthouse on the Exploits Islands and no wharf at Fortune Harbour. A named lighthouse node and the wharf you'd leave from let this site cite the trip.
Send it (email ready) - The walk up Mount Peyton, named →mapping
A mapped path runs almost to the summit, and none of it has a name. Name it in OpenStreetMap, or send a walked GPX from the road.
Send it (email ready) - A walked GPX of the Steady Brook Falls trail →track
The open map holds neither the trail nor the falls. One recorded walk makes the page.
Send it (email ready) - An iceberg photographed off Change Islands →photocan be sponsored
Wikimedia Commons has no licensed, located iceberg photo of this shore.
Send it (email ready) - An iceberg photographed off La Scie →photocan be sponsored
Same gap, other coast: Commons has nothing located here.
Send it (email ready) - Anything mapped on St. Brendan's →mapping
Almost nothing on Cottel Island is named in OpenStreetMap.
Send it (email ready) - The Barbour heritage property mapped in Newtown →mapping
The reason many people drive the 320 coast has no map entry yet.
Send it (email ready) - Airport Nordic's groomed loops tagged piste:type=nordic →mapping
Tag the loops and this site can measure them like any trail.
Send it (email ready) - T'Railway trailhead parking near either airport →mapping
The railbed is well mapped, but where a truck and trailer get on it mostly isn't.
Send it (email ready) - Woolfrey's Pond campground mapped in Lewisporte →mapping
The park is drawn, the campground isn't.
Send it (email ready) - Fortune Harbour's true position →mapping
Its only map point is an old import well off the road's end. A GPS fix opens up pages for the whole peninsula.
Send it (email ready) - Walked tracks on any measured trail →track
89 trails are measured from the map; none yet carry a walked track. Every original GPX earns a dated, credited note.
Send it (email ready) - Your berg, on its route, in season →photocan be sponsored
Under the iceberg filter, each road's card has a slot waiting for its own ice.
Send it (email ready) - The Norris Point road, connected →mapping
A broken junction on the access road sends routers on a long phantom loop. One fix puts Norris Point and Bonne Bay Arena back on the measured map.
Send it (email ready) - The Rock Cut Trails, mapped in Twillingate →mapping
One of Twillingate's best-known walks, and the open map holds none of it. One recorded walk, or an afternoon of mapping, makes the pages.
Send it (email ready) - A recorded quad or side-by-side loop, from any town →track
The open map barely knows the island's riding. One original GPX of a regular ride starts the network, and it checks itself like a walked track.
Send it (email ready) - A recorded bike ride — anywhere on the island →track
The open map knows one rail trail and almost nothing else for cycling. Send the recording of a ride, not a planned route or a downloaded outline, and it is checked and credited like a walked track.
Send it (email ready) - A water leg, and a name on the wharf you left from →track
We check a water leg by its two ends, never as a passage or crossing time, and publish it when at least one end is named. Export the track history, not waypoints or routes; any chartplotter format is fine.
Send it (email ready) - Your town's rink, named and tagged →mapping
Plenty of the island's rinks are unnamed or not drawn at all. A named leisure=ice_rink puts yours on the skating map.
Send it (email ready) - The fast chargers, tagged on the open map →mapping
Most NL Hydro sites have a bare pin on the open map, with no operator or socket tags. Tag them and the electric layer can tell fast chargers from wall plugs.
Send it (email ready) - A night-sky photograph from a designated Terra Nova observing site →photocan be sponsored
The province's only Dark-Sky Preserve has four designated observing sites and no night photograph of any. One original frame with its location puts a real sky on the stargazing guide.
Send it (email ready) - Names for the 17 unnamed marinas on the open map →mapping
A harbour with no name can't be listed on the harbours guide. Adding the name in OpenStreetMap is a five-minute edit.
Send it (email ready) - Lewisporte's marina, tagged on the open map →mapping
There is no marina element for Lewisporte, so the harbours guide can't list it. One tagged area or node with the name fixes that.
Send it (email ready) - Runway surface, length, lighting and fuel tags for the island's mapped strips →mapping
Most of the island's mapped strips carry no surface, length, lighting or fuel tag. A pilot who has landed there can add them after a flight.
Send it (email ready) - Codes for the three uncoded sites: Springdale Airport, Naval Air Station Argentia, Paddys Pond water aerodrome →mapping
These carry no identifier, so they sit outside the node-to-node table. Whether each is coded, closed or a water base under another name is a pilot's fact to settle.
Send it (email ready) - A photograph of any strip — approach, apron or the strip itself →photocan be sponsored
The flying guide has no picture of any aerodrome on the island.
Send it (email ready) - A flown leg between two of the island's strips — the GPS log →track
No pilot has sent one yet. The record names the two strips and the day, under your credit, never a time.
Send it (email ready) - A strip willing to host a community mesh node →help
A volunteer-run, licence-free radio mesh starts the day the first strip hosts a node. It sits beside VHF, the ELT and NAV CANADA's products, never instead of them.
Send it (email ready) - A permanent web address for three town events →knowledge
Some town events live on pages whose addresses change every year. If you know where an event should live, the organisers most of all, send it and we'll link it.
Send it (email ready) - A photograph of King's Point, the town on Green Bay →photocan be sponsored
Commons has no free photograph of the town; both routes show a map instead.
Send it (email ready) - A photograph of Long Island, from the ferry or the island itself →photocan be sponsored
Nothing usable on Commons beyond an old mine ruin.
Send it (email ready) - A photograph of Triton and its causeway islands →photocan be sponsored
Searches return Neptune's moon, not the town.
Send it (email ready) - A photograph of Dover and the Dover Fault lookout →photocan be sponsored
Commons has plenty of Dover, England and nothing of Dover, Newfoundland.
Send it (email ready) - A photograph of Roddickton or Canada Bay →photocan be sponsored
Commons has only satellite frames of this coast.
Send it (email ready) - A photograph of New-Wes-Valley or Newtown's bridges →photocan be sponsored
Every search lands on another Wesleyville.
Send it (email ready) - A photograph of The Codroy Valley: the valley, the estuary or Cape Anguille →photocan be sponsored
Commons has nothing that crops well.
Send it (email ready) - Jungle Jim's Eatery in Lewisporte, on the map →mapping
It was asked for, and neither map our eat pages come from has it. Add it to OpenStreetMap at the right building and it appears at the next sweep.
Send it (email ready) - Four Gros Morne trails, on the map →mapping
These four have no path on OpenStreetMap that can be told apart from the paths around them. Tracing each, with its name, gives it a page.
Send it (email ready) - Three Terra Nova trails, on the map →mapping
