175 km. Deer Lake airport to Triton: the Trans-Canada, then Route 380 from South Brook.
The road crosses the water. Past South Brook, Route 380 hops by causeway from the mainland to Pilley’s Island, then on to Triton, with Green Bay on both sides.
Why people come. Triton’s museum is a pavilion built around a sperm whale. Brighton, just further on, is where in a good summer the ice comes to Green Bay.

MooseYear round, worst between dusk and dawn
The province states that the likelihood of injury in a moose collision is twice as high between dusk and dawn as in daytime. Route 380's causeway country is dark and empty after the junction towns.

Not renting? Here's who Deer Lake Regional Airport lists at the terminal.
No rideshare here.
The airport's ground-transportation page lists no rideshare service, only three taxi firms, a shuttle and seven charter operators (checked 2026-09-15).
Taxi
Star Taxi, which the airport calls its primary ground transportation provider, serving the whole region with wheelchair-accessible vans and accommodating service dogs. The airport advises contacting them 24 to 48 hours before you arrive.
Taxi
Deer Lake Taxi, listed as operating around the clock across the province with no pre-booking required.
Shuttle
Star Taxi runs a shuttle between Corner Brook and the airport, serving named hotels, with a private-car option. It must be booked ahead. The airport publishes the fares.
Coach
DRL Coachlines' once-a-day coach each way between St. John's and Port aux Basques stops in Deer Lake town (the Circle K), not at the airport terminal. It reaches no island and no national park. Tickets are bought on the bus, cash only. Times and fares are DRL's: drl-lr.com.

Questions
Should I fly into Deer Lake or Gander for Triton?+
Deer Lake, by 49 km: 175 km against 224 km from Gander. The Route 380 turn is at South Brook, on the western half of the Trans-Canada.
What is the drive actually like?+
Trans-Canada east to South Brook, then Route 380 north. In the second half the road hops by causeway from the mainland across Pilley's Island to Triton Island, with Green Bay on both sides. It is a dead end.
Is this an iceberg drive?+
Some summers. CBC covered a berg at Brighton, just past Triton, with humpbacks the same week. It is not one of the province's named viewing spots, so the badge on this page says 'worth going', not 'go'. Check Iceberg Finder for the live picture.
How does this relate to the Long Island ferry?+
Same road. Route 380 leads to the Pilley's Island wharf for the Long Island crossing. The YDF to Long Island page covers the boat; this one carries on across the causeway.
