Faded lines are other drives from Deer Lake Regional into this area: Lewisporte (276 km), Grand Falls-Windsor (213 km), Leading Tickles (299 km), Comfort Cove-Newstead (303 km), Triton (175 km). Each splits off where its line leaves this one.

  1. Stop 1: Loggers' Life Provincial MuseumDetour

A reconstructed 1920s logging camp on the west side of Grand Falls-Windsor, mapped right beside the driven line. Central Newfoundland ran on the woods for a century, and the museum shows that work.

Stopping here adds 4.6 km to the drive.

  2. Stop 2: Mary March Provincial Museum

A few hundred metres off the Trans-Canada in the middle of Grand Falls-Windsor, telling the story of the Beothuk and of central Newfoundland's interior. It comes near the end of the drive and makes a good break.

Before you go

These change, so we link to the people who keep them up to date.

  • MooseYear round, worst between dusk and dawn

The province states the likelihood of injury in a moose collision is about twice as high between dusk and dawn as in daytime. Most of this drive crosses the unlit interior. If you land at Deer Lake late in the day, consider breaking the trip instead of driving on to Botwood after dark.

  • Road conditionsYear round, matters most November–April

The Trans-Canada across the interior has long unserviced stretches and gets winter weather well after the coasts have cleared. Check conditions before leaving the airport.

Renting a car? Book the car when you book the flight.

Summer rentals sell out, says NL Tourism, and in June 2026 BNN Bloomberg reported St. John's airport agencies booked for nearly all of summer.
