Before you go

These change, so we link to the people who keep them up to date.

  • Ski seasonWinter — the exact dates are the mountain's call

Opening day, lift schedule, tickets and snow conditions are on the resort's own site. Check before you book the flight, and again before you drive up.

  • Road conditionsYear round, matters most November–April

Most people drive this in winter. Check the provincial cameras before leaving the terminal: the Humber Valley stretch gets weather the airport does not.

    511nl.ca →
  • MooseYear round, worst between dusk and dawn

The province states that the likelihood of injury in a moose collision is twice as high between dusk and dawn as in daytime. Short winter days put the drive back after skiing in that window.

Renting a car? Book the car when you book the flight.

Summer rentals sell out, says NL Tourism, and in June 2026 BNN Bloomberg reported St. John's airport agencies booked for nearly all of summer.

Both checked October 7, 2026.
