40.2 km. Port aux Basques ferry terminal to the Codroy Valley: the Trans-Canada north, then Route 407 into the valley where the Grand Codroy reaches the sea.

The only short drive from the dock. Corner Brook is 222 km away and Gros Morne 337 km. From the nearest airport it is 245 km.

Wreckhouse. The Long Range funnels down onto the highway here. Check the road-conditions link above before you drive it.

Route 407 into the valley is not paved for all of its length: about a kilometre in four short pieces (see the panel below). It matters more for the paperwork than the driving. Some rental agreements treat unpaved road as a breach, so ask at the rental counter.

This drive crosses Wreckhouse, where the Long Range meets the Trans-Canada. Check the provincial conditions service before leaving the terminal: this is the one road out of Port aux Basques.

  • MooseYear round, worst between dusk and dawn

The province says the likelihood of injury in a moose collision is twice as high between dusk and dawn as in daytime. A night docking puts you straight onto unlit highway.

Questions

How far is the Codroy Valley from the Port aux Basques ferry terminal?+

About 40 km, on the Trans-Canada and then Route 407.

Which airport or ferry is nearest to the Codroy Valley?+

Port aux Basques, by a very wide margin. It is 40 km from the ferry terminal, 245 km from Deer Lake airport, 548 km from Gander and 880 km from St. John's.

What else is near the ferry terminal?+

Not much. The Codroy Valley is the only short drive from this terminal. Corner Brook and Rocky Harbour in Gros Morne each have their own measured drive from the dock: Port aux Basques to Corner Brook, and Port aux Basques to Gros Morne.

Is the drive from Port aux Basques to the Codroy Valley a hard one?+

It is short, but not paved the whole way. OpenStreetMap records about a kilometre of unpaved road on Route 407 near the valley end; the surface panel has the breakdown. Some rental agreements treat unpaved roads as a breach, so ask at the rental counter. It is also exposed: it crosses Wreckhouse, so check the road-conditions link above, above all in something high-sided.
