The association's length. Most walk it one way with a lift waiting; there and back is 21 km.
Our mapped line reads 9.8 km; a mapped line under-reads a winding path, so the figure above is the association's.
Climbing
427 m
Every up added together; the highest point is 223 m.

A trailhead at each end: walk it one way with a car or a lift waiting, or turn round and walk it back.

Access: the rating measures effort only. The map records the surface as earth 8.5 km, boardwalk 0.1 km. Step-free access isn't recorded; ask the park before you go.

East Coast Trail, path 10 of 25. The association allows 4 to 7 hours and rates it moderate to difficult. It joins Sugarloaf Path to the north and Cape Spear Path to the south. Walking it one way, your lift waits where the next path starts: that end is 13 km by road from St. John's airport. The GPX marks it "Path end". Every path →

Getting to the trailhead — St. John's (YYT) to the start of the Deadmans Bay Path: 20 km by road.Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors. Tiles by OpenFreeMap. Route line computed with OSRM.

20 km from the terminal. Unlike the Spout Path, it climbs almost straight off the start, from sea level to 225 m in the first third, holds the height along the top, then drops back to the water. Four hundred and twenty-seven metres of ascent in under ten kilometres, most of it early; the rest is cliff-top walking with the sea a long way down.

This is a wilderness path, not a park trail. The East Coast Trail Association builds and maintains it, publishes path advisories, and decides whether it is passable today. Unfenced cliff edge is normal here. The rating above covers length and climb only. It does not tell you the trail is safe on the day. Read the association’s information before you go, and take any advisory seriously.

Length comes from the mapped way geometry, and ascent from open terrain data sampled every thirty metres. Both are cited above.
