200.3 km. Gander airport to Trinity. The last road, Route 239, comes off the ridge and the whole town is suddenly below you. Slow down for that.

Pair it with Cape Bonavista. Trinity’s turnoff comes first, the lighthouse further on: one full day, one peninsula.

Why people come. The whole town is the exhibit: the museum, the Green Family Forge on working days, Fort Point’s view of the waterfront, and the Rising Tide’s summer stage.

  • WhalesMay–September, the province's stated window

Trinity is one of the twelve shore spots the province names for whale watching, and Fort Point's bench is the obvious seat. Whales do not always keep to the window.

  • Theatre seasonSummer; check the company's calendar

Trinity is also a stage. The Rising Tide Theatre is mapped a minute's walk from the museum; it announces its own season, pageant and schedule.

  • MooseYear round, worst between dusk and dawn

The province states that the likelihood of injury in a moose collision is twice as high between dusk and dawn as in daytime. Route 230's long, unlit middle is where it matters.

Questions

Should I fly into Gander or Deer Lake for Trinity?+

Gander: 200 km against 503 km from Deer Lake.

Trinity or Bonavista — or both?+

Both. Trinity's turnoff comes first on Route 230 and the cape is 248 km from Gander against Trinity's 200: a full day. The Bonavista page has the lighthouse leg.

What is Trinity actually like?+

The best-kept streetscape of saltbox houses, churches and merchant premises on the island. You can walk it in an hour and photograph it for three. Check with each place for what is open that week.

What is the drive actually like?+

Mostly the same Route 230 as the Bonavista drive. Then the 239 drops off the ridge into Trinity Bight and the town appears below you all at once.
