Questions

Should I fly into Gander or Deer Lake for Salvage?+

Gander: 97 km against 400 km from Deer Lake. It is one of the shortest beach drives from YQX.

What is the drive actually like?+

Trans-Canada east past Gambo and Joey's Lookout, off at Glovertown onto Route 310, then through the Eastport peninsula (Sandringham, Eastport and its beach) until the road ends at Salvage's harbour. The last stretch is the reason to come: rock, water and old outport houses.

Is there actually sand?+

Yes. OpenStreetMap maps Eastport Beach as a named beach directly on the route, with a second mapped beach at Sandy Cove a 4.5 km detour off it.

Why Salvage and not just the beaches?+

The road ends at one of the oldest continuously fished harbours on this coast. The beaches are the middle of the drive. Driving on to the end gets you the whole peninsula.
