93 km, one road. Gander airport to Musgrave Harbour on Route 330 the whole way, through Carmanville and round Hamilton Sound to the Straight Shore.

Why people come. The beach: OpenStreetMap maps continuous sand on both sides of the town, rare on a coast that mostly meets the sea as rock. Banting’s memorial park isn’t mapped yet; you can fix that.

Add Lumsden. Route 330 carries on to Lumsden (OpenStreetMap node/107364008), ringed with beach. It adds 68.3 km out and back.

Questions

Should I fly into Gander or Deer Lake for the Straight Shore?+

Gander, overwhelmingly: 93 km against 395 km from Deer Lake.

What is the Straight Shore?+

The low, sandy coast the road meets at Musgrave Harbour, straight by Newfoundland standards. OpenStreetMap records continuous beach for kilometres either side of the town, unlike most of this island's coast.

Is the beach swimmable?+

It depends on the North Atlantic and the day. The sand is real and long; judge the water from the shore. Bring layers either way; our gear guide says why.

Is this an iceberg drive?+

Sometimes, since this coast faces Iceberg Alley. But Musgrave Harbour is not one of the viewing spots the province names. Those spots are in the iceberg guide; Iceberg Finder has live sightings.
